Huge asset repositories for some of Valve’s most well-known titles have leaked online for all to see. The files contain assets for CounterStrike Source, Portal, Half Life 2: Episodes 1&2, and Team Fortress 2.

The biggest leak by far is for Team Fortress 2, with over 60GB of data. This data includes just about every asset for the game, including unreleased and unfinished content. Naturally, the Team Fortress 2 Subreddit is having a field day sifting through everything

It doesn’t look like any of Valve’s new or future titles have been affected.

The files seem to have been leaked on Discord by a user called Leakerwanderer. According to them, they have held onto these files since 2016.

It might not be related (it’s hard not to note the timing), but this asset leak comes on the heels of an important update for TF2.

In December 2022, Valve essentially handed the reins for TF2 over to the community in the form of VScript support. This support gives custom content creators more creative freedom than they’ve ever had before.

At the time of writing, it seems Valve is rather tight-lipped on the situation, but as the company is infamous for saying very little, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

I would say that the leak and VScript might bring about a resurgence for Team Fortress 2, but the title already pulls in an incredible player count daily. Right now, the daily peak is over 100,000. Not bad for a 16-year-old game!
