A collection of Activision classics has been curated and scheduled for release in November 2025, with 15 Atari 2600 titles coming to Evercade.

Another cartridge collection has been announced for Evercade handhelds, TV consoles, and bartops. The Activision Collection 1 boasts 15 classics from the world’s first ever third-party video game developer.

Back in through the mists of time, Activision launched providing games for the Atari 2600, before branching out onto other platforms (around the time of the US games crash of 1983), signing deals to produce movie tie-ins, and eventually becoming the gaming giant that it is today, albeit owned by Microsoft.

This collection features 15 games that first appeared on the Atari 2600 in the first half of the 1980s:

  • Pitfall!
  • River Raid
  • Enduro
  • Megamania
  • Beamrider
  • Space Shuttle: A Journey Into Space
  • Demon Attack
  • Fishing Derby
  • Private Eye
  • Sky Jinks
  • Crackpots
  • Grand Prix
  • Starmaster
  • Tennis
  • Freeway

Given the stature of Activision within the industry 45 years later, that a collection of its games should exist on the Evercade demonstrates how far the platform has come. The team at Blaze Entertainment seem to have made some excellent deals recently to republish games for platforms and from publishers that just a few years ago would have seemed fanciful.

While I was doubtful about the move toward large capacity cartridges for games from the late 1990s/early 2000s, this release and a few others proves that the Evercade can still be a home to classic 8-bit and 16-bit titles.

And while older Atari cartridges are now retired, this collection shows that there is still life in the 2600!
