One of the highlights of growing up as a gamer in the 90s was all the magazines. The console wars were in full swing, and if your allegiance was with Sega, you may be familiar with Sega Force.
A new physical Sega Magazine is now available to purchase
Sega Force was a monthly publication available in the UK from January 1992 to July 1993. The industry has changed a lot in the last three decades, but Sega Force is back for round 2, this time as Sega Force Mega.
Fans of physical media will be pleased to learn that Sega Force Mega is a printed magazine and not an E-publication. Not only that, you can purchase the first issue from Fusion Retro Books right now.
The description for the magazine states that the first issue is complete but is ultimately a trial to gauge interest in the product. If there’s a customer base, Fusion Retro Books plans to release Sega Force Mega Magazines every couple of months.
The first issue is on sale for £4.99 and is a 60-page A5 magazine covering everything Sega related from Homebrew to current gen and arcades. Fusion Retro Books also states that if they continue the magazine, they will produce A5 binders emblazoned with a logo.
Fusion Retro Books has a target pledge of £1000 on their website for the Sega Force Mega Magazine. At the time of writing, they have reached almost three times that amount!
Physical gaming magazines have had a rough go of things over the past few years as more people turn to their phones for the news. That said, a few publications are still fighting on the front lines. Earlier this year, we reported on the new Debug Magazine, focusing on Indie games. A quick browse of the official Team Debug website suggests the publication is still going strong.
