Around 12 months ago we reported on a project to emake The Simpsons: Hit & Run in Unreal Engine 5. Well, its creator reubs is done, and the final video of this YouTube project has been unveiled.

This final video highlights the gameplay and scenery in the finished remake, which is pretty close to the original game. In fact, the only real difference is how high resolution everything looks. To clarify: “this is not a mod of The Simpsons Hit and Run what I have done is I have remade the entire game from scratch.”

If you didn’t play The Simpsons: Hit & Run, the game was essentially a Springfield take on Grand Theft Auto 3. Unlike GTA 3 (and its variants), the original game and the Hit and Run remake rely almost wholly on car missions, rather than mixing in some “running about” missions.

Reubs notes his remake of The Simpsons: Hit & Run has:

  • Beautiful cinematics
  • Remade details and features
  • Cutscenes
  • Missions
  • Character dialogue (apparently from the original game.

Sadly, unless you’re reubs himself, the only way you can enjoy this game is to watch the video above. As per the original video, and every video since, the Simpsons Hit and Run remake will not be released for download.

The verdict? This guy is insane and I bloody love it! It’s just a shame that distributing the game would be such an utter legal nightmare, but that’s the way things are.
