Bad news for Sony PlayStation 3 fans. Sony has announced the closure of the PlayStation store for PS3, PS Vita, and PSP devices from July.
Following in the footsteps of rivals Microsoft and Nintendo, access to the online stores for Sony’s older consoles ending indicates a downturn in activity. If you are using a PS3 you have until July 2nd to embrace the full set of features on the PlayStation Store. The same date has been set for PSP devices, while PlayStation Vita handhelds have until August 27th.
We are closing PlayStation™Store on PlayStation®3 consoles on 2nd July 2021 and on PlayStation®Vita devices on 27th August 2021. Additionally, the remaining purchase functionality for PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) will also retire on 2nd July 2021.
The end is nigh, but there remain a few features you’ll still be able to:
- Re-download and play previously purchased titles
- Access previously purchased videos and media
- Redeem game and PlayStation Plus vouchers
- Re-download and play previously claimed titles through PlayStation Plus as long as your membership is active

Features that will be removed:
- No longer able to purchase PS3, PS Vita and PSP digital content (this includes games and video content)
- No longer be able to make in-game purchases on PS3, PS Vita, and PSP titles
- Ability to redeem PSN wallet fund vouchers (e.g. gift cards) on PS3, PS Vita or PSP devices is removed
Sony advises that PSN wallet funds will remain in accounts, but will only be available to purchase PS4 and PS5 products on PlayStation Store. For the full details, we advise you to read the full Sony PlayStation Store announcement.
