Fans of the cutest platformers rejoice! Rainbow Islands is getting an Arcade Archives release on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2024.

The sequel to Bubble Bobble was confirmed for addition on Twitter this week, with the announcement coming direct from Taito.

Originally released in 1987, Rainbow Islands challenges you to complete a series of rainbow-themed islands. Enemies are defeated by trapping them in bubbles and rainbows can be used to create new pathways and barriers.

The game has had numerous re-releases over the years, and can be found on the SEGA Mega Drive Mini II.

This time around, however, the title benefits from Arcade Archives’ additional features like online leaderboards, save states, and rewind. Of course, these are totally optional enhancements, so you can either play the game as originally intended, or bring the modern quality of life features into the mix.

You can get release date for Rainbow Islands on PS4 and Nintendo Switch from January 24th, 2024.
