Latest Nintendo Direct reveals a quintet of retro Nintendo games on the Switch.
Switching into the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack today, you’ll find some new classic titles from the NES, SNES, and Nintendo 64. Snake Rattle ‘N’ Roll, R.C. Pro-Am, BattleToads in Battlemaniacs, Killer Instinct, and Blast Corp, cover three console generations and a period from 1988 to 1997.
Retro Nintendo games on the Switch
Retro releases of classic Nintendo titles through the Switch Online + Expansion pack are not unusual. You can already play everything from GoldenEye 007 (N64) to classic Game Boy Mario titles.
The trailer below provides a glimpse of each title.
Let’s look at these retro Nintendo titles in turn:
Snake Rattle ‘N’ Roll
This 1990 NES game features two playable characters, the snakes Rattle and Roll, who navigate through eleven 3D isometric levels, collecting items, avoiding obstacles, and eating creatures called “Nibbley Pibbleys” to grow longer.
R.C. Pro-Am
A top-down isometric racing video game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Released in North America in 1988, it puts you behind the wheel of a radio-controlled car competing against three opponents on various tracks.
BattleToads in Battlemaniacs
This is a 1993 beat ’em up platform game developed by Rare for the SNES. Players control either Rash or Pimple, the two iconic Battletoads, as they battle their way through several levels to rescue Princess Angelica, who has been kidnapped by the Dark Queen.
Killer Instinct
Released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Killer Instinct is a 2.5D fighting game developed by Rare, and takes place in a dystopian future where a powerful corporation called Ultratech hosts a fighting tournament called “Killer Instinct”. Players choose from a cast of unique fighters with diverse fighting styles and engage in one-on-one combat.
Blast Corp
Blast Corps (1997) is a Nintendo 64 action game developed by Rare in which you have to prevent a nuclear carrier from detonating, with a collection of powerful vehicles at your disposal.
These retro Nintendo games can be played on the Switch now, but you will need a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.
