How are your plans for a retro-themed summer turning out? Retromessa 2024 is another event to stick in your calendar, but be warned: if you’re in the UK, this one requires a bit of travel and a hotel. (We’ve had a look, you can get there and back for under £250.)

Already happening this summer are ZZAP! Live, Kickstart 02, and Retcon 2024. Fancy adding another into your diary?

If you play your cards right, this could be a very memorable weekend, with the opportunity to experience retro heaven like never before.

Retromessa 2024 is a major retro gaming event in Sandefjord, Norway on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August, 2024.

Whether you live in Norway or fancy a retro trip abroad, this is a good time to check out Retromessa. This year, the event celebrates its 10th anniversary, and boasts 100 playable retro games, sales stalls, and activities.

Some guests are also planned. Confirmed so far is British video game artist Kevin Bayliss, who has a huge library of titles on his CV, such as Battletoads, Killer Instinct, Diddy Kong Racing, Star Fox Adventures, and Donkey Kong Country. Interestingly, Bayliss has also been part of a gaming graphic teaching initiative in Norwegian schools.

Activities at the event include pixel figure beading and face painting, which should keep younger kids busy. (Assuming they want a break from retro gaming, of course.)

Elsewhere at Retromessa, you can expect a unique collection of retro hardware, covering consoles, computers, gamees, and other items. All games can be tested, with several decades of gaming history ready to play.

Full details for the event are currently limited, probably due to stands and guests still waiting to confirm. However, Retromessa 2024 looks a great way to experience retro gaming fun, see some new devices, and sample a whole new world of classic north European gaming that you never knew existed.
