Worms fans rejoice! The Director’s Cut for Amiga computer systems will feature at least one map based on Turrican.

How’s that for the ultimate crossover?!

Regular readers may recall that I’m a big fan of Turrican, the classic 1990 scrolling run-and-gun shooter for 8-bit and 16-bit systems. While I was blown away by the C64 version, the Amiga release is the one I really love.

I was similarly entranced by Worms 5 years later, but never dreamed I’d be looking forward to them being combined 3 decades later. (Yes, it has been that long.)

As previously reported, Worms creator Andy Davidson is working on a special Director’s Cut for the game, with a planned January 2025 release date.

Expected to feature various enhancements, we’ve learned in the past week that the game will feature a Turrican level, with the approval of Factor 5 (original developers of the Amiga and ST versions of the game). Given how Worms typically generates levels, there is a strong likelihood that your Turrican-based maps won’t look like this one:

Is this the tip of the iceberg? Can we expect a whole host of other Amiga video games popping up in this special edition of Worms? Civilization? Another World? Super Cars II? Kick Off 2? Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge?

Zool?

I mean, it’s way too early to tell, but it’s sure fun to speculate if this is the direction Andy Davidson is going with this. A Cannon Fodder or Sensible Soccer (or both… or Mega Lo Mania!) might also be fun to see in this special edition of Worms.

But at this time, there is no solid information on what other maps will be included in Worms: The Director’s Cut. There is also no information on price/distribution, although a 3.5 inch diskette would be nice…
