Indie developers are increasingly blurring the lines between retro nostalgia and modern game design, and LowTek Games’ Flea 2 is a prime example.

Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, the sequel to Flea! is set to bring its pun-filled platforming action to NES, PC, and even Dreamcast!

In the original Flea! – which gained popularity in the Evercade’s Indie Heroes Collection 1 – we were introduced to Henry the Flea. In this installment, his hyperactive hopping takes use through more intricate level design, refined mechanics, and a fresh dose of humor. The story sees Henry and his fleadom fighters taking on the villainous Flea-o-patra, promising a pun-laden adventure that’s as challenging as it is charming.

Flea 2 on NES, Dreamcast, and PC

The Kickstarter campaign for Flea 2 was clear that a NES physical cartridge was intended. But the release for the Sega Dreamcast has come as a surprise. This unexpected release showcases the versatility of the Dreamcast hardware and offers a fascinating glimpse into how modern indie design can translate to a console from a bygone era.

And let’s be clear: this isn’t just a ROM dump; it’s a full-fledged retro release, a testament to the dedication of LowTek Games to preserving and celebrating classic gaming.

For those who prefer a more contemporary gaming experience, Flea 2 is available digitally on PC via Steam and itch.io. The Steam version offers seamless integration with modern gaming libraries, while the itch.io release provides a comprehensive package that includes the NES ROM, Dreamcast ISO, manual PDF, soundtrack, and the Windows version. Notably, the Steam version is also Steam Deck compatible, allowing for portable pun-filled platforming on the go.

Where to Find Flea 2

You’ll find the digital versions of Flea 2 on the LowTekGames website. This includes the NES ROM, Dreamcast ISO, and PC version. You can also get the manual in PDF format, and a soundtrack CD.

Physical versions can be bought on Etsy – remember, the NES and Dreamcast versions have old school, boxed editions.

And if that wasn’t enough, Flea 2 has followed Flea! onto the Evercade. You’ll find it on the Indie Heroes Collection 4 cartridge. This ensures that fans of retro handheld gaming can also join Henry on his latest adventure.

You’ll also find Flea 2 on Steam.
