Takaya Imamura, the legendary artist behind iconic Nintendo characters from F-Zero, The Legend of Zelda, and Star Fox, is bringing his retro-futuristic manga, Omega 6, to life in a multi-faceted project spanning video games and comics.

Omega 6: The Triangle Stars, a 16-bit-styled adventure game, is set to launch on Nintendo Switch and Steam on February 28, 2025, while Dark Horse Comics will release an English translation of the Omega 6 manga in October 2025.

The game, developed by Happymeal and Pleocene in collaboration with City Connection and published by Clear River Games, follows the story of Thunder and Kyra, two humanoids tasked with finding a new home for humanity. Their quest takes them across three unique planets, each filled with diverse alien encounters and challenging environments. The game promises a blend of action, adventure, humor, and surprises, all wrapped in a visually appealing 16-bit aesthetic reminiscent of Imamura’s classic works. The soundtrack, composed by Shinobu Amayake, another Nintendo veteran, further enhances the retro feel.

Omega 6 physical edition

Limited Run Games is offering physical editions of the game for Nintendo Switch, including Standard, Deluxe, and Signature editions. The Deluxe Edition features a collector’s box, soundtrack CD, poster, art book, and trading cards. The Signature Edition adds a signed card from Imamura, a prologue comic, and iron-on patches. Pre-orders for these limited editions open on January 21st. The game itself will be available digitally on the Nintendo eShop and Steam starting February 28, 2025.

Dark Horse Comics

Complementing the game, Dark Horse Comics will publish the English translation of Imamura’s Omega 6 manga in October 2025. Translated by Zack Davisson, the manga tells a separate story within the same universe, focusing on Thunder and Kyla’s bounty hunting escapades. This provides fans with a deeper dive into the world and characters of Omega 6, offering a different perspective on their adventures. The manga will be a 216-page paperback and will be available in comic shops and bookstores.

This cross-media approach allows fans to experience the world of Omega 6 in multiple ways, whether through the interactive gameplay of the video game or the narrative storytelling of the manga. Imamura’s vision, combined with the talents of the development teams and Dark Horse Comics, promises a rich and engaging experience for fans of retro gaming, manga, and science fiction.
