Fancy adding the Evercade Alpha TAITO to your bartop gaming collection? Now is the time.

I was completely taken by surprise by the success of the Evercade Alpha bartops when they arrived last year. The swappable marquees on the Street Fighter and Mega Man edition units were a nice touch, too. I’m afraid I was a little cynical about the dual cartridge system — these were just Evercade VS devices with a display, surely?

Of course, they are, that’s the point. It’s a very clever piece of design, and I should have been more supportive. Sorry, Evercade. Time to make things right…

What is the Evercade Alpha TAITO edition?

The Taito-flavoured version of the Evercade Alpha supports local two player action, again has swappable marguees, built-in stereo speakers, and an 8-inch IPS display. It’s an officially-licensed TAITO product with competition-grade controllers, and is available to pre-order now from £199.99, with the price rising to £229.99 upon release in November.

(EU and USD prices are €229.99 and $259.99 rising to €249.99, and $279.99 SRP in November.)

Trailer time:

The Evercade Alpha TAITO edition bartop arcade includes:

  • Bubble Bobble
  • Cadash
  • Elevator Action
  • The Fairyland Story
  • Growl
  • The Legend of Kage
  • The Newzealand Story
  • Puzzle Bobble
  • Rastan
  • Space Invaders

The eagle-eyed among you will notice that these titles are very similar to those found on the Super Pocket TAITO edition handheld.

Where to buy the latest Evercade Alpha

Pre-orders are open now in the usual Evercade retailers. You can find the Evercade Alpha TAITO edition on Amazon, or you can use www.funstock.co.uk. Some other mail-order options are available, but whether you see it on shelves in your local gaming store is another matter entirely.

A ton of new additions to the Evercade family were announced on May 29th, and I’ll be bringing them all to you over the next day or so. Stay tuned.
