Will parody RPG Leopold Kills a God be able to progress beyond Itch.io and end up with a physical edition for Game Boy Color?
Another tasty looking Game Boy title is in development, with a playable demo on Itch.io and a Kickstarter aiming to take Leopold Kills a God physical. I’ve had a play on Itch.io, and the dialogue is good, offering a wry take on the genre, complete with combat segments.
Here’s the synopsis:
Leopold Kills a God is an RPG that parodies common tropes and plotlines of older RPGs, such as dealing with gods or god-like characters, but in mundane settings. It features adjustable difficulty and turn-based combat that encourages players to think about their choices in battles. It also includes numerous sidequests and optional content to give players a sense of exploration and a fully formed world that Leopold can traverse.
The game starts off with Leopold embarking on a quest for his grandpa, and you should have a play yourself on the Itch.io page. The game has been developed using GB Studio by GameSetBoy, whose previous credits include Love Always Runs Away and Sacred Meat.
(Incidentally, if you’re interested in using this game development engine, a GB Studio magazine is available.)
A video for the Leopold Kills a God Kickstarter has been produced:
