Retro Games Ltd’s likely THEA1200 was unveiled at its Gamescom booth, visible until Sunday 24th August at the gaming event of the year.

Update #1

RGL has issued some clarification stating that THEA1200 has a working keyboard, and more:

* Yes it has a full sized working keyboard..

* We have not released any internal tech spec yet to anyone, nor what will be included in terms of hardware/accessories or software (apart from one of the amazing included titles)

* It is just one of multiple full sized and mini releases over 2025-2026 and beyond

* And it’s not called a ‘maxi’ (nothing we have done is called that, they are either full sized with working keyboards, or if they have no working keyboard and are half full sized have the word ‘mini’ after the model name) so this one is called THEA1200

In response to incorrect system specification speculation, RGL has commented:

Update #2

Footage from the RGL stand has been uploaded to YouTube by @Patricks_Retro_Corner. This includes a look at The Settlers II Gold Edition in action and a freshly molded THEA1200 system, which appears to have a port where the floppy drive would be.

Could the disputes holding back the release of THEA1200 (a likely title) have been resolved? It certainly looks that way — PLAION REPLAI and Retro Games Ltd have indicated that its upcoming Amiga-like is set to be unveiled at Gamescom 2025 this week.

Running from Wednesday 20th to Sunday 24th of August, Gamescom is an annual gaming industry event in Cologne, Germany, and is Europe’s biggest gaming event.

RGL and PLAION’s next full-size retro machine will be unveiled at an exclusive teaser showcase at the RGL consumer booth. But it isn’t all about the Amiga-like. We’re told that RGL will offer sneak peeks at the future of its retro line up, which includes peripherals AND software.

The maxi Amiga

Sounding like a poor 1970s UK family saloon, the full-sized Amiga “maxi” (to distinguish it from the A500 mini) has been long promised by RGL. Yet various stumbling blocks have slowed its release.

According to the PR details, a teaser trailer will be published to coincide with Gamescom, but no tech specs, price, or release date will be shared. However, a full global reveal will be made in October 2025.

If we can wait that long.

“Gamescom is always a highlight for us, but this year is extra special as we can finally give our fans a taste of what’s next,” said Paul Andrews, Managing Director at RGL. “We want people to see it in person, feel that excitement build, and then join us in October when we’ll lift the curtain completely.”

I mean, I can’t wait that long, and will be very surprised if no images of the device don’t appear on social media within the next 24 hours.
