Fantastic news for anyone who spent their formative years glued to the gorgeous worlds of 16-bit adventures—we’re talking the absolute classics like Chrono Trigger and A Link to the Past. That era was defined by deep stories and beautiful sprite work, and now a new contender is poking fun at the whole genre.

Jaggy Snake Games has just announced that the demo for their unique RPG, Questing, is officially coming to Linux. The demo is already available on Windows, but this expansion is a great signal that the small Dublin-based studio is keen to reach a wider audience.

This adventure game will test your reflexes

The buzz around Questing has been pretty positive, with critics citing its “humor and clever writing” and its ability to constantly surprise players. The key features show why this isn’t a standard throwback:

  • Battle System Twist: The combat is a wild fusion, inspired by Pong and bullet hell games. This definitely sounds like it will test your reflexes, which is a big departure from the turn-based or simple real-time combat of its inspirations.
  • Witty Dialogue: The game uses sarcastic dialogue to directly satire those classic 16-bit RPG adventures we love, which is a brilliant concept if pulled off right.
  • Classic Influences: It openly cites A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana as inspiration—a holy trinity of 16-bit action and adventure.

You take on the role of a reluctant hero tasked with saving the world, solving engaging puzzles, and finding plenty of secrets along the way.

Jaggy Snake Games expands the team for a 2026 launch

To ensure this unique debut title hits its target, Jaggy Snake Games has announced they are expanding the team. Originally a solo effort by Creative Director Ian Lynch, they’ve now brought on Alessandro Brillo as the new Producer.

This move is all about keeping the project on track. Ian Lynch stated that bringing Alessandro in “feels like the final piece of the puzzle.” With the new structure, they are “proceeding full speed ahead” and are aiming to have at least a third of the game finished by the end of the year, targeting a release window sometime in Q4 2026 on PC (wishlist on Steam now).

If you’re looking for a nostalgic adventure with a serious dose of modern snark, keep an eye on Questing and grab that demo!
