Look, I’ll be honest: as someone who didn’t grow up with a PS1 (beyond briefly poking at the one my sister’s boyfriend owned), the Tomba! series is one of those classic PlayStation blind spots for me.
Pink-haired feral child platformer? Evil swine ruining everyone’s day? Apparently this was someone’s childhood, but it definitely wasn’t mine.
Still, Limited Run Games clearly thinks the world needs more Tomba, and honestly? After reading this, I’m curious enough that I might be persuaded. After all, we included it in our list of the top 10 original PlayStation platformers.
Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return Special Edition is landing on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam on December 15, 2025 — a perfectly chaotic time of year for a perfectly chaotic platformer.
What’s new in this “Special Edition?“
Originally released in 1999 by Whoopee Camp, Tomba! 2 was a beloved 3D platformer. Now it’s been polished up, modernised, and stuffed with bonuses:
- Save Anywhere — Forget returning to designated save points like it’s still 1999. Save whenever you want.
- Rewind Feature — Miss a jump? Slip off something you definitely meant to land on? Just rewind reality and pretend it never happened.
- Museum Mode — A surprisingly chunky collection of old packaging, manuals, merch photos, concept docs, and high-res artwork.
- Restored Japanese Soundtrack — The original music, previously exclusive to Japan, is now included for Western players.
- Multiple Languages — English, Japanese, French, Spanish, German, and Italian. Everyone gets to experience pig-based platforming chaos in their own tongue.
The story in Tomba! 2
Life was going great for Tomba until — surprise! — the Evil Pigs from the first game showed up again and started causing trouble. To make things worse, his friend Tabby has disappeared. So Tomba heads off to teach the pigs a lesson and sort out the mess.
Even though I’m new to this whole Tomba universe, I can respect a game that fully commits to its weirdness. Pink-haired hero. PS1 energy. Christmas-season pig vengeance.
Sure, why not?
Launching December 15
