Looking forward to receiving your revived Commodore flagship C64? There’s good news!
Commodore CEO (and “chief joystick waggler”) Christian “Perifractic” Simpson has posted a new behind-the-scenes update showing the Commodore 64 Ultimate Starlight Edition moving through final production — and it’s very good news for anyone hoping to unwrap one this Christmas.
The short video, filmed directly on the production line, confirms that the limited Starlight Edition is not only in active assembly, but expected to be fully packaged by the end of this week. These units will then join the 5,000 beige C64 Ultimas already in transit to customers worldwide.
Eight days: From factory to front door
Fractic breaks down the shipping process:
- 4 days from the assembly partner to regional warehouses
- 4 more days from those hubs to customers’ homes
- Some exceptions apply (“unless you’re in the Caribbean,” he jokes)
If your order is moving, your Commodore.net account should now show “assembled in transit to your local Commodore hub.”
A spoiler-free peek
The video offers a quick glance at the Starlight Edition being assembled, but Simpson insists they’re careful not to spoil the final presentation. Still, the footage shows a healthy line of machines progressing toward completion — a reassuring sight for anyone refreshing their order page daily.
Fans are also encouraged to check out commodore.net/pressplay, which explores the contents of the USB cassette that ships with each C64 Ultimate. Described as a “USB Cassette, pre-loaded with over 100 games, demos, music collections, and other goodies,” Simpson describes it as a reminder of the passion that has kept the brand alive — and a promise that today’s Commodore intends to keep up with the community that kept it going.
The waiting is the hardest part…
Closing with a Tom Petty reference (“Waiting is the hardest part”), Perifractic signs off with optimism — and a hint that deliveries may begin appearing sooner rather than later.
With production humming, logistics mapped out, and both the beige and Starlight units on the move, it looks like if you bought the C64 Ultimate Starlight Edition you might just get that nostalgic sparkle under the tree this year…!
