Daily word challenge Wordle has taken the world by storm, but did you ever expect to play it on the Commodore 64? Thanks to veteran developer Roysterini you can now play the toilet-themed Turdle “Wordle clone” on a Commodore 64, C64 mini, or emulator.
Highlighting that typically British pasttime of toilet humour, Turdle challenges you to find the right water-closet themed word in just six turns. Green letters are correct and in the right slot. Blue letters are right, but in the wrong hole.
Starring Turdle the Turtle, the game is really very silly, and a lot of fun. Here’s a bit of blurb.
Let me introduce you to my friend Turdle the Turtle. He’s a bit of a Billy-No-Mates, but look at him. Still got a smile….. but do you know why he’s smiling? Well, his favourite game is Wordle and the gang at Megastyle have decided to do their ‘shit take’ on Wordle and create a game just for Turdle the Turtle to cheer him up.
He has one good friend, Roysterini. Nobody else can put up with Turdle cos he stinks. Why don’t you, yes you, a trusty C64 fan, show your love for Turdle by playing the game in his name?
Just like Wordle, the game we all love and adore….the game we love to see cascading through our Twitter timelines…. Turdle is a word game where you get 6 chances to guess the random word.
This is a bit different though.
Is it?
Yes it is.
In Turdle, all words are related to, well….. shit in one way or another, either literally or loosely. Euphemisms, slang, related words and all that malarky.
Instead of being a daily challenge like Wordle, this game is a highscore chaser. So, you can keep going to try and better your score, or until you get tired or need to visit the privy.
You can grab your copy of Turdle from Roysterini’s Itch.io page. Meanwhile, other Wordle clones for retro systems are also available.
Assuming your mind is sufficiently toilet-based, you should be able to work out eachThe easiest way to play Turdle is in the browser. However, you can also use an emulator to play, or even a physical C64 if you have the tools to transfer the game across. The game can be downloaded as a PRG or D64 file.
If you know how to load those files in an emulator, you should be fine; otherwise, stick to the browser version, or learn how to import games to your C64 mini.Just remember – if you’re playing on original hardware, looking up the answers online is going to be a challenge…
