Ninty Media’s Kickstarter Campaign for an unofficial companion book to the GameBoy smashed its goal of £15,000 in less than half a day! At the time of writing, the campaign has raised £23,457 with 25 days to go.

It seems Ninty Media’s ‘GameBook: The Unofficial DMG Companion’ has struck a chord with fans, and it’s not hard to see why. The Kickstarter page is full of stunning pictures documenting the original GameBoy’s ten-year lifespan.

The book shows the best games on the system but also promises to cover the different versions of the console and a few historical pieces. The Kickstarter page closes with a list of stretch goals that will add more content to the finished book. I’m not sure Ninty Media will reach their maximum target of £60,000, but if they do, they plan to squeeze in a section covering the Virtual Boy!

The Kickstarter page teases the possibility of a future project covering the GameBoy Color, depending on how well this campaign goes. This isn’t Ninty Media’s first project, and they already have other successful campaigns under their belts, including books on the Sony Vita and PlayStation 3.

We recently reported on the state of physical gaming magazines and how so many have disappeared in recent years. It’s great to see so much interest in this book, even if it’s a one-off. If you want to get involved, check out the Kickstarter Campaign page
