Antstream Arcade’s Retro Games Library Coming to Xbox

Last Updated on July 15, 2023

Antstream Arcade has announced the forthcoming launch of its Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One service, to take place on Friday, July 21, 2023.

With an incredible collection of over 1300 classics, including iconic titles like Space Invaders, Bubble Bobble, and Metal Slug, gamers can finally experience beloved PlayStation and Nintendo games on the Xbox platform for the very first time. Pre-orders for Antstream Arcade on Xbox are now available on the Xbox store.

Antstream Arcade prides itself on its extensive catalog, which covers releases from Atari to Commodore, Sega, Nintendo, and the original PlayStation era. What sets Antstream Arcade apart is the seamless and hassle-free instant access to these games on Xbox One and S/X. Players can jump right into the gameplay without needing to install, download, or deal with any setup processes. Additionally, each game undergoes a rigorous quality control process to ensure that the gameplay remains true to the original developer’s intentions.

The platform offers a range of exciting features, including instant cloud game saves, online high scores, and the ability to resume play on multiple devices. Antstream Arcade is constantly expanding its library of officially licensed retro IPs, with new titles added every week. Furthermore, indie developers like Flea and Reshoot R are creating brand-new games exclusively for classic consoles.

Antstream Arcade introduces a groundbreaking way to play retro games with its unique technology that modifies the original classics to create new mini-game challenges. For example, players can tackle challenges as Pac-Man by avoiding the dots or switch the roles around and have Pac-Man chase after Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde!

Competitive players will find their haven in Antstream Arcade, where they can participate in tournaments, challenge others to high-score duels, and engage in epic community battles. Alternatively, players can simply strive for the best score in the world. By participating in these activities, players can earn gems, unlock achievements, connect with fellow gamers, and build their gaming profile to showcase their skills.

The Antstream Connect event yesterday explained more about what to expect:

Steve Cottam, CEO of Antstream, reminisces about his favorite childhood game, Manic Miner, and shares the vision behind Antstream Arcade: “Despite living in a technologically advanced age, I realized that accessing the games I adored as a child wasn’t as easy as it should be. I also wanted to be able to easily share my scores and compete against my friends. We believe in the preservation and accessibility of all games – the classics, the impossible ones, and even the forgotten or lesser-known titles. I am immensely proud to bring the Antstream Arcade platform to the Xbox community.”

Sarah Bond, CVP of Game Creator Experience and Ecosystem at Microsoft, expresses enthusiasm about the availability of Antstream Arcade on Xbox consoles: “Many of us grew up playing these games, so being able to stream them on Xbox consoles and share these experiences with friends and family is truly incredible. We are delighted to partner with Antstream and leverage Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub’s technology benefits and Azure cloud services to help Antstream reach a wider audience.”

While Antstream Arcade is already accessible on PC, Mac, Linux, Android, Android TV, Firestick, Samsung TV, and via browser (in beta), Xbox will be the first major console to natively support the platform. Additionally, Antstream Arcade will make history as the world’s first third-party cloud gaming service to be featured on Xbox.

Antstream Arcade on Xbox is priced at £29.99 annually or £79.99 for lifetime access, with all future games and features included. The service will be available in Europe, the UK, USA, and Canada. Learn more at www.antstream.com.
