Bought Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords on Nintendo Switch, and wondering why you don’t seem to be able to complete KOTOR 2?
It’s simple: it’s a very buggy game, and Aspyr don’t seem to have tested the game fully.
This isn’t the first time KOTOR 2 has suffered from bugs. For example, there are dozens of bugs in the PC version, even to this day. Most can be resolved with a content mod, but as Redditor Shepron recalled five years ago
Kotor 2 was rushed out, so it has quite a number of bugs and if unlucky you can run into severe savegame troubles too. I don’t recommend relying on auto-/quicksaves. They break. In the head.
And then there’s this:
Now, if you’re using a PC, you can employ the The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM) from the Star Wars gaming forum Deadly Stream.
But what if you’re using a Nintendo Switch to play KOTOR 2? Well, happily (?) Aspyr are aware of the issue.
The problem for anyone who bought the game – standalone, or bundled with the original KOTOR – is that the wait for a patch might take some months. Still, at least that affords plenty time for detailed bug tracking – by the users, rather than Aspyr, of course…
UPDATE: Aspyr issues workaround statement
In response, Aspyr has issued a formal statement confirming the issue.
In addition, steps to circumvent the KOTOR 2 Switch bug have been released:
This is a known issue and will be addressed in the next patch.
For now, our suggested workaround is to warp past the point where the game crashes using the cheats menu. To do so, triple click the left thumbstick, open the cheats menu, and select warp. We recommend warping to a random location while on the party selection screen before the cutscene, otherwise you’ll be going solo after warping. Afterwards, follow the same steps above to warp to OND504. Make sure not to head to the merchant quarter, as your game will crash.
We are continuing to investigate this issue and will update this article with any new information and patch dates as we get them. You can click the “follow” button at the top of this article if you would like to be notified when we make any changes.
Hopefully that patch will be along sooner, rather than later.
