Last Updated on October 6, 2023

Atari, one of the world’s most iconic consumer brands and interactive entertainment producers, has announced the latest installment in its nostalgia-fueled Atari Recharged series: Berzerk: Recharged.

The original Berzerk was a top-down multidirectional shooter that saw players fighting hordes of armed robots through an endless, electrified maze. The highlight of Berzerk is Evil Otto, a bouncing smiley face that mercilessly hunts down players.

Berzerk: Recharged features updated graphics, deft twin-stick controls, and a new soundtrack by the acclaimed Megan McDuffee. Players will fight through a deadly maze filled with menacing, vocal robots, including Evil Otto, who is still deadly, invincible, and ever-present.

Key features of Berzerk: Recharged include:

  • Challenge Accepted: Survive an endless maze of random rooms that get progressively harder the further you get.
  • A-Maze-Ing Levels to Tackle: Shoot through 20 hand-crafted mazes that deliver unique gameplay challenges.
  • Pumped Power-Ups: Pick up weapon and player modifiers to help you survive the onslaught.
  • Co-Op and Leaderboards: Recruit a friend for local co-op and track your progress on the public leaderboard.

In addition to Berzerk: Recharged, Atari is also releasing a Berzerk Enhanced Edition cartridge for the Atari 2600, fully updated with diagonal firing and robot voice sampling. The cartridge launches on November 17, 2023, alongside the new Atari 2600+.

Berzerk: Recharged launches on Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Atari VCS later this year. To learn more, visit the official website.
