Monsterpatch hit funding within the first 16 minutes and is on course to hit various stretch goals.

We like to highlight a retro gaming Kickstarter for your attention on Gaming Retro, and Monsterpatch definitely fulfils that description. Reaching its $15,000 goal in just over a quarter of an hour upon launch, the project ends in 17 days and has already hit $177,414.

Take a look at the trailer:

So, what is Monsterpatch?

Mixing farming with monster collecting (there’s a heavy Pokemon element to this), Monsterpatch is a cozy, retro-inspired monster-collecting RPG that blends farming and town-building mechanics. You’ll explore a floating continent filled with magical creatures called MoNs, which you can catch and train for battles against other wizards.

Here are some key features:

  • Nine different houses: Each is ruled by a powerful Archwizard with unique battle strategies and signature MoNs.
  • Starter MoNs: Choose two of six to begin your journey.
  • Spellbook: Learn various spells to interact with the environment and MoNs.
  • Town customization: Customize your town layout and recruit townsfolk.
  • Fast-paced battles: Engage in battles with a team of four MoNs.
  • Two versions: Skyfarer and Aurora, each with unique storylines and antagonists, encouraging trading and interaction between different save files.
  • Collector’s boxes: Available with physical items like a MoN Field Guide, Art Book, promo cards, and MoN pins.
  • Digital distribution: The primary way to get the game.

Monsterpatch has raised enough funds for a physical boxed release, although note this title is only for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs — no console release, current or retro, has been confirmed. No mobile release is planned.

We think this looks a great game, and its determination to be “cozy” and single player is something we can applaud. If this looks like the sort of thing that you would happily spend hours on, support Monsterpatch on Kickstarter.
