You can do almost anything in video games these days, and April Grove is taking that a step further, with a gentle lumberjacking adventure.

(No word on pressing wild flowers.)

Designed as a modern pixel-art adventure with retro wilds to chop and charm through, the game is set for a summer 2025 release from developers Colorgrave, a studio whose other credits include Prodigal, Curse Crackers, and Veritus. Described as a “standalone forester journey” the game promises charm, discover, woodland magic, and women’s clothing.

Here’s what April Grove looks like:

Hang around in bars?

Not in this game. Here’s what it IS about (no Mounties in sight…)

The charming forest settlement of April Grove needs a woodcutter, and this is your opportunity to pick up the axe gifted to you by a divine being and see what a career among the trees looks like for you. You’re free to wander the woods at your own pace, chopping wood, meeting the locals and uncovering new locations.

The game seems designed to be both fun and intriguing, letting you set the pace to explore or chop, or both. And trees don’t stay felled for long, so you don’t need to worry about the ecology of the forest.

Avoid the high heels, though.

  • 🧙‍♀️ Explore a mystical forest and meet the quirky citizens who call it home.
  • 🪓 Wield the axe of the forester who came before you. Go from woodcutting rookie to master lumberjack!
  • 🎶 Lose yourself in a peaceful world with a cozy, enchanting original soundtrack.
  • 💼 Chop wood while you work — perfect to run in the background for chill gains!
  • 🥩🔮🪓 Customize your experience with different foods, enchanted necklaces, and powerful axes.
  • 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ Choose your character — play as a guy or a girl, your journey, your style!
  • 🐱🐰🐿️ Pet adorable animals… some might love it, others… not so much.

When can you play April Grove?

The game is currently slated for a June 2025 release. You can wishlist April Grove on Steam now. There is currently no information on Steam Deck compatibility, however.

(Rest assured, if there is an opportunity to shoehorn Monty Python into something, I will find it.)
