SelectaPlay and Nakama Game Studio have announced a March 27th release date for the Bubble Ghost Remake, bringing the whimsical platformer to PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch. This reimagining of the classic title, originally seen on the Atari ST and subsequently released on the Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Apple IIGS, Commodore 64, MS-DOS, Nintedo Game Boy, SAM Coupé, and Windows, aims to recapture the charm of the original while introducing modern sensibilities.
The core concept remains intact: players guide a spectral protagonist and his fragile bubble through a haunted mansion. Success hinges on mastering intricate level designs and solving clever puzzles. This remake, however, promises more than just a visual facelift. Nakama Game Studio has incorporated new game modes, challenging boss encounters, collectibles, and other surprises to expand the original experience.
Bubble Ghost Remake’s phantastic challenge
Beyond the core gameplay, Bubble Ghost Remake offers a variety of modes to cater to different player preferences. Story mode delves deeper into the narrative surrounding the spirit of Heinrich Von Schinker, while Arcade, Challenge, and Speed Run modes provide varying degrees of difficulty and replayability. A Hall of Fame allows players to compete for high scores and bragging rights.
But is this game a sensible update? Well, here’s the original Nintendo Game Boy version:
Meanwhile, the remake looks extremely polished:
For those inclined towards physical media, SelectaPlay is offering both Standard and Collector’s Editions for the Nintendo Switch. The Collector’s Edition, housed in an oversized box, includes the game, a prequel comic, a soundtrack CD, stickers, and an acrylic standee.
Bubble Ghost Remake appears to be a thoughtful update, aiming to resonate with both long-time fans and newcomers. We’re concerned as to whether this relatively simple game really needed such a visual overhaul at a time when classic titles are being reissued with essentially the same graphics (see yesterday’s X-Out Resurfaced news) .Whether it successfully captures the magic of the original while offering a compelling modern experience remains to be seen. The March 27th release date will provide the final verdict.
Bubble Ghost Remake fans can Wishlist the game on Steam and Nintendo Switch.
