Get ready to rock and roll, retro gaming fans! A legend in the video game music world, Chris Hülsbeck, is bringing his talents to the upcoming Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary edition! Yes, you read that right. The composer behind iconic soundtracks like The Giana Sisters, Turrican, and Star Wars Rogue Squadron is lending his musical genius to celebrate four decades of rock-smashing action.
Who is Chris Hülsbeck?
For those who grew up in the 80s, the name Chris Hülsbeck is synonymous with classic gaming. His work has graced over 80 games, solidifying his place in video game history. A true legend in the industry, Hülsbeck has been composing captivating soundtracks for 39 years, with credits including projects like the Star Wars Rogue Squadron series, Turrican, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate, Giana Sisters, Tunnel B1, Extreme Assault, War of the Worlds, Doctor Who: Legacy and Symphonic Shades. Born in Germany in 1968, he started piano lessons with his grandmother and was composing his own music at a young age. He got his first Commodore 64 at 14 and started learning programming alongside composing, eventually winning a computer music contest that launched his career. And now, he’s revisiting his roots with Boulder Dash, a game he himself loved on his Commodore 64.

“Boulder Dash was one of my absolute favorite games when I got my first C64 in the 80s,” says Hülsbeck. “I’m delighted to be involved in the wonderful new edition of Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary and to be able to contribute a remix of the title music and sound2 effects.”
