Following the release of Game Boy games (as well as Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance titles) on Nintendo Switch this month, we’ve compiled a list of the games. So, if you enjoy playing 30 year old handheld games on a five year old handheld, this is the page for you.
Classic Game Boy games on Nintendo Switch
The following Game Boy titles have been released to date on Nintendo Switch Online:
- Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
- Gargoyle’s Quest
- Kirby’s Dream Land
- Metroid 2 – Return of Samus
- Super Mario Land 2 – 6 Golden Coins
- Tetris
These can be added by installing the Game Boy app in the Nintendo Store.
Nintendo Switch Online’s Game Boy Color games
In addition, the following titles have been released so far, originally issued on Game Boy Color:
- Wario Land 3
- Game & Watch Gallery 3
- Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX
Meanwhile, the these titles are expected to arrive in future:
- The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
- The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
- Kirby Tilt ‘n’ Tumble
- Pokémon Trading Card Game
At present, these games have no release date.
Game Boy Advance titles on Nintendo Switch
A collection of Game Boy Advance games have also been released on Nintendo Switch.
- Kuru Kuru Kururin
- The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
- Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
- Mario Kart: Super Circuit
- Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3
- WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame
A few more Game Boy Advance games are coming to Nintendo Switch, probably later this year:
- Metroid Fusion
- Kirby & the Amazing Mirror
- Fire Emblem
- F-Zero: Maximum Velocity
Playing Game Boy games on Nintendo Switch
Owning a Nintendo Switch alone isn’t enough to play Game Boy games. You need to pay for the annual Nintendo Switch Online access. This gives you access to the Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles (as well as NES and SNES games).
If you have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, you can play Game Boy Advance titles (along wwith Nintendo 64 and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games). Check Nintendo’s membership options page for details.
