Detective Dotson is finally bringing Bollywood charm to Nintendo Switch!
This looks absolutely lovely, and I’ve been keeping an eye on it since I first saw it pop up. Detective Dotson—a charming, puzzle-heavy adventure with a distinct Bollywood flair—is officially launching on the Nintendo eShop on October 30, 2025. And I have a bit of a thing for detective games, too.
Developed by Masala Games and published by Rainy Frog, this game is clearly designed to appeal to fans of classic mystery adventures like Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright, but with a wonderfully fresh, distinctly Desi twist set on the colorful streets of modern India.
The biggest mystery: Why the delay on switch?
Here’s my only bit of head-scratching over this announcement: Detective Dotson has been out on Steam for a while now, and it’s always frustrating when a game that seems perfectly suited for the Switch’s unique appeal takes this long to make the hop. This is a cozy, breezy title—it’s short, it’s stylish, and it’s perfect for handheld play. What’s with the delay getting it from one digital storefront to another?
Regardless of the timeline, the game itself sounds great. You play as Detective Dotson, an aspiring Bollywood star turned unlikely detective after his father’s murder. Fueled by ambition, you dive into a gripping mystery.
- Case Building: You crack the case by piecing together clues on a drag-and-drop evidence board (with hints available, thank goodness).
- Quirky Locals: You chat up colorful locals, who might insist on a favor or trade before spilling the juicy clues. I love the idea of integrating a bit of fetch-quest or bartering into the evidence gathering!
- Unique Look: It features stylized visuals with great pixelated characters set against layered 3D backdrops, all bursting with color.
The entire experience is designed to be cozy, breezy, and compact, playing out in around 3–4 hours.
For those who want a light-hearted mystery with a killer aesthetic and a lot of personality, Detective Dotson is one to download on October 30th, and you can pre-order now.
Let’s hope the long wait for the Switch version was worth it! Learn more at www.rainyfrog.com.
