It is fair to say that I’m falling out of love with the Evercade. Despite owning over 20 collections, I’ve got several still unopened, others unplayed, and some only played once. I can barely recall using the VS, and the EXP has been used purely for playing the same three carts repeatedly.

I do feel sad about this, not least for the amount of money spent. But I’m finding retro gamer is just simpler on Nintendo Switch and on the Steam Deck. I’m also somewhat regretful over the fact that I’m spurning physical games, because I adore the artwork and manuals that come in those beautifully designed Evercade cartridge cases.

But Evercade remains an interesting and thriving world for new retro gamers, as demonstrated by its new hardware and carts…

Evercade Alpha and cartridges update

The Evercade team has released a few updates over the past few days, so we’ll start with these. First of all, Evercade Alpha and new cartridges are on their way to retailers. The Evercade Alpha has a global release planned between November 28th and December 16th, with UK and US customers expected to receive it by the end of November. Western and Northern Europe may need to wait longer.

If you’re waiting for EXP-R TATE grips, they’re expected to ship in late November.

In addition, some new carts are planned for imminent release, namely Toaplan Arcade 3, Toaplan Arcade 4, Data East Arcade 2, and Metal Dragon/Life on Mars. Details of the Toaplan Arcade 3 have been released this week, which will boast 7 titles: Batsugun, Batsugun Special Version, Out Zone, FixEight, Ghox, Truxton II and Vimana.
