On with the original article…

As a dedicated Amiga 1200 owner and lifelong fan of the platform, this news is absolutely huge! After all the rumours, the hints, and the partial confirmations following the success of the A500 Mini, Retro Games Ltd and PLAION REPLAI have made it official: THE A1200 is coming, and it’s a full-sized, reimagined recreation of the iconic 32-bit home computer.

This is exactly what the Amiga community—and I, personally—have been waiting for. The Amiga defined the 1990s for a generation, and the idea of having a brand new, fully functional machine based on its most powerful home iteration, with modern connectivity is incredibly exciting.

Full size, full nostalgia, full package

The critical detail here is the size. Unlike the smaller version of the A500, THE A1200 will be a full-sized computer with a working keyboard. For those of us who grew up with the Amiga, the keyboard was an integral part of the experience, and being able to type commands, use Workbench, or even play games that required real typing input will be a massive return to form.

The package comes complete with everything you need:

  • The Computer: A full-sized replica of the A1200 unit.
  • Peripherals: A classic-style mouse and a gamepad.
  • Modern Features: It outputs via HDMI, includes save states, and supports USB sideloading for those of us with extensive digital libraries.

“This was the machine that made the 90s come alive for a generation of players,” said Paul Andrews, Managing Director at Retro Games Ltd. “With THE A1200, we’re celebrating that incredible moment in time – the games, the design, and the creativity that shaped a generation.”

Pre-loaded legends

The machine will come pre-loaded with 25 legendary titles that truly defined the A1200 era, ensuring you can plug in and play straight out of the box.

The confirmed list of eight included classics is superb:

  • Beneath A Steel Sky
  • Lure of the Temptress
  • Ruff n Tumble
  • Defender of the Crown I & II
  • The Turrican trilogy

While not announced, we’re also pretty sure that The Settlers 2 Gold Edition is also coming with The A1200. Oh, and Workbench is installed!

A1200 price and release details

This celebration of “floppy disks, pixel art, and late-night gaming marathons” is set to launch on June 16, 2026.

The suggested retail price (SRP) is set at £149.99 (€189.99 / $189.99 / AU$299.99). For a full-sized, high-quality replica of my favourite classic computer, that price feels incredibly reasonable.

Retail listings are set to go live soon, starting November 10, 2025, but keep an eye on the RGL website.

It’s clear that Retro Games Ltd is determined to recapture the magic of the machine that “powered a decade of imagination,” and for a genuine A1200 fan like me, THE A1200 is easily my most anticipated retro release in years.

The big question for me, though, remains unanswered: is that a genuine 3.5-inch floppy drive?
