You could soon build your own Lego Game Boy. Meanwhile, a Sony PS2 Lego kit is being considered for production.
Lego’s growing affection for retro gaming systems continues later this year. In October 2025, the Lego Nintendo Game Boy will be available to buy.:
2021’s offering was the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System, complete with a TV set and a “playable” Mario.
In 2023, Lego brought us a plastic brick representation of the Atari 2600. This was accompanied by cartridges that “exploded” with a representation of the corresponding games.
There is also a Lego Pac-Man arcade set, with a hand-cranked display of moving characters (which is probably my favourite of all retro console Lego sets).
Meanwhile, a Lego Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone set has been spun off into a larger collection of Sonic toys. You’ve probably already seen the Lego Mario toys.
All in all, Lego has developed a good reputation with retro gamers, and this news has been warmly received.

Here’s how the Lego Game Boy was formally announced:

Full details are currently scarce, and it seems unlikely that there will be scope to play actual games through a cleverly hidden Raspberry Pi Zero. But don’t rule it out – someone will probably find a way.
Is a Sony PS2 Lego Set Likely?
A Lego Game Boy isn’t the only brick-based console replica on the horizon, however. A Lego PlayStation 2 has progressed to the review stage on the Lego Ideas platform. Previous successful builds in this enthusiast-contributed range of Lego kits include:
- 21304: Doctor Who
- 21302: The Big Bang Theory
- 21306: The Beatles Yellow Submarine
- 21319: Central Perk
- 21321: International Space Station
(The Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone set was also a fan-conceived project.)
The Lego PlayStation 2 built is 1:1 scale with the original PS2 console and consists of 2111 pieces. Making the 10,000 supporter milestone means the potential kit is up for an official review. Along with the console, the project includes a controller, memory card, and ejectable CD drive. The lid can also be removed to inspec the “motherboard” within.
A decision on the Lego PlayStation 2 is expected soon, so keep an eye on the Lego Ideas project page.
