NOTE: Sadly, GLITCH is now permanently closed.
There’s nothing like bringing your local gaming community together by opening up a new games bar. This is exactly what is happening in Stockport this year! By Christmas, a new games and entertainment bar for retro and modern gamers alike will land on Princes Street.
Venue runners Amy Fletcher and partner Joseph Patten have called the bar GLITCH, and have imported retro arcade machines from America, including Donkey Kong, Space Invaders and Pac-Man. This retro experience involves purchasing the classic tokens from the bar to operate the machines. Having experience with the upkeep of other music venues and bars, Joseph Patten explained to the Manchester Evening News: “We believe it’s the next big push needed to bring immersive interactive bars to Stockport, in the same way they do in the cities. It’s a chance to provide more than just a sit down with a beer, people want more of an experience when they hit the town now. GLITCH provides that.
“It’s a hit of nostalgia like a interactive museum for vintage arcade lovers, whilst also offering the look into the future with all the latest consoles for groups to book out. I think it’s the perfect time of year to be opening with Christmas around the corner.”
The bar will accommodate both retro and modern gaming consoles such as Nintendo 64, SEGA Mega, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PlayStation 5. They can be booked out hourly and there’ll be a total 11 gaming booths with 40-inch screens. A Star Wars light saber duelling area upstairs is also in the works.
“It’s going to change to change the lay of the land massively for more bars of this type to invest in Stockport Town centre. It’s certainly the first of its kind in Stockport but its where the bar world is heading.”
Retro games bars certainly seem to be on the rise!
