Matteus Beus is developing a new graphic adventure for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. If the name is familiar, you may know him from another title in the works, Crypt of Dracula, a dungeon crawler that will run on genuine Sega hardware.
Matteus has posted a brief gameplay video of Chords on Twitter:
We can’t glean too much from the short gameplay snippet, but what’s on display looks very impressive. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive is quite capable of pretty graphics, and those are on full display here. The soundtrack rocks, and the sassy humor, and 4th wall break are always appreciated in games like this. The gameplay shows the main character, Aiko, leaving his apartment and rushing to register for a band competition. It also shows off the interface and how conversations work. The environments shown are well-detailed and give off a slick futuristic vibe.
At the time of writing, there’s no mention of a release date or how far into development Chords is. Nonetheless, if you’re a fan of the genre, this is a title to keep an eye on.
Matteus also has a YouTube channel. The most recent video is a few months old but gives a development update for the previously mentioned Dungeon Crawler, Crypt of Dracula. If you enjoy learning about retro game development, it’s well worth a look.
We recently reported on a big update to Sonic Triple Trouble 16-Bit. Although the projects are quite different, it’s great to see the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive getting attention.
