Hi. I’m Christian Cawley, and I’ve been working as a freelance technology writer since 2007. For years, I’ve become increasingly interested in retro gaming and game preservation, particularly as operating systems evolved and games were left behind.

I’ve written about this, and ways to revive old tech and media, in magazines and websites.

Gaming Retro is a labour of love, and its story goes back to 2017, with the creation of a Facebook page, Retro Gaming World. Launched just before the retro gaming revival got going, the page quickly built a following.

I had been looking for a new website idea after moving on from (and selling) a TV show fansite. As a fan of retro gaming, the page had really been set up for me to keep tabs on interesting links. I didn’t think that retro gaming was particularly popular beyond the world of emulation, but I suspected it could be something that more and more people become interested in…

It became apparent that a whole website could potentially be built around the idea. So in 2020, Gaming Retro UK was launched, and the Facebook page renamed to match. Since that time, various writers have contributed to the site’s collection of reviews, lists, features, and guides.

How your support will help

With this Patreon, I hope to be able to offset the costs of hosting and expand the site as per my ambition — into a huge resource for retro gamers. I’ll add details about this at a later date, but what I want to avoid (having tried and found it too difficult to scale) is throwing Google Ads all over the site.

I mean, it never looks nice, does it?

While a handful of Amazon and other affiliate links are present, they’re there for future growth (we’ve made a staggering £2.06 so far in 2025). They’re also specifically for retro gamers.

Three tiers of support

I’ve established three basic tiers for you to select, and with that support, I can worry less about paying the web host and focus more on building Gaming Retro into the vast retro gaming resource that exists in my head.

I’m open to suggestions on how I can expand and improve this Patreon, and if you have any ideas for Gaming Retro, do let me know.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you will join me as I expand my little retro gaming website into something more comprehensive.

See you on the other side!

Affiliate Disclosure: Some of the links in this post may be affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through those links. This comes at no extra cost to you. Thank you for your support!
