The Homeworld Remastered Collection space strategy games redefined the RTS genre are free on the Epic Games Store for one week only.
The collection (initially released in 2015) includes the original Homeworld and Homeworld 2, both remastered with updated high-res textures and models, new graphical effects, support for HD, UHD, and 4K resolutions, a new audio mix using original source effects and music, cinematic scenes recreated in beautiful high fidelity by original artists, mod support and mod tools, and bonus archival versions of Homeworld Classic and Homeworld 2 classic.
Kicking off back in 1999 with Homeworld (from Relic Entertainment and published by Sierra Studios), the series puts you in control of a fleet of space craft searching space for a new home. It’s evocative of the TV series BattleStar Galactica – the original, rather than the remake. The games present a fully 3D space enviroment, with granular control of fighter fleets.
The Homeworld Remastered Collection also includes access to the Homeworld Remastered Online Multiplayer, which combines the competitive multiplayer modes for both Homeworld and Homeworld 2 into one centralized mode. This allows players to access content (races, maps, and game modes) and improvements, features, and technology from both games, allowing for unlimited online competitive multiplayer space battles on an epic scale.
In addition to the remastered games and online multiplayer, there is another free bonus: access to the Homeworld Remastered Multiplayer Beta. This beta allows players to test out the new multiplayer features before they are released to the public.
