Is the GoldenEye 007 Re-release on Nintendo Switch Finally Happening?

It’s turning into a running joke. But could we have actually crossed the threshold that brings the GoldenEye 007 re-release into the realms of reality?

Touted for years, the clamour for reissuing of the 1997 Nintendo 64 classic has snowballed since the Xbox Live version of GoldenEye 007 was leaked in early 2021. Months ago we were told that the game’s return to Nintendo was immintent.

Nothing happened.

Then last week, a rumour began that claimed the game would appear this week.

Again, nothing happened.

The latest claim suggests the game – and presumably other N64 classics – will be announced at the next Nintendo Direct, which is on June 28th or June 29th.

Other rumours, meanwhile, suggest this week, specifically tomorrow, June 15th.

But which one is more likely, and will GoldenEye 007 feature? We’d be brave, foolish, and stupid to bank on any of these options. The late June dates are particularly unlikely, as they coincide with the Nintendo shareholders meeting. It would seem, therefore, that any Nintendo Direct event will happen within the next 10 days, or not until after the summer.

As for GoldenEye 007… well, it might come sooner or later. While the Bond world is between actors would seem to be the most opportune moment, but who knows? One thing is for sure: rumours of its impending arrival are unlikely to be dampened by this setback.
