Two new arvcade game collections have been announced for Evercade and Evercade VS. Jaleco Arcade 1 joins Gaelco Arcade 2, with 14 games announced across the two collections.

These physical cartridge collections feature the purple design for arcade titles (as opposed to the red design for standard Evercade collections) and will work on any Evercade handheld or VS system.

Jaleco Arcade 1

The second collection of Jaleco games for the Evercade platform is the first arcade collection from the Japanese publisher. Jaleco was one of the biggest game publishers from Japan at one time, with 8-bit and 16-bit home console titles and a big name in the arcades.

Eight games are include in this collection, which comprises games unsuitable for home consoles, with shooters and multiplayer platformers.

  • Rod Land
  • The Astyanax
  • Saint Dragon
  • 64th Street: A Detective Story
  • E.D.F. Earth Defence Force
  • Avenging Spirit
  • CyBattler
  • P-47: The Phantom Fighter

Saint Dragon was a particular favourite of mine back in the 1990s, so I’m looking forward to this collection.

Gaelco Arcade 2

One of the surprise packages of the Evercade VS was the Gaelco Arcade cartridge, so it’s nice to see the collection getting a direct follow up. A further six games are included in this collection from the Spanish arcade great, some of which see their first release outside of an arcade cabinet. You’ll find two sequels, two sports games, a puzzler, and a much-loved platformer in the Gaelco Arcade 2 collection.

If you’re never heard of Gaelco games, it’s probably because they have been restricted from emulation until recently due to anti-theft and anti-piracy techniques on the original arcade boards.

The six games on Gaelco Arcade 2:

  • Big Karnak
  • Maniac Square
  • Squash
  • TH Strikes Back: Thunder Hoop 2
  • Touch and Go
  • World Rally 2

Both collections will be available to pre-order on May 31st 2022 and will be released at the end of July 2022.

Reaction to these collections has bee largely positive.

Following the Gaelco Arcade 1 collection (which is rarely removed from my Evercade VS), Gaelco Arcade 2 is a no-brainer. However, the Jaleco Arcade 1 is pretty intriguing too…
