A new report has finally shed light on what really happened to the promised Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords “Restored Content” DLC for Nintendo Switch — and it turns out Disney’s legal team was the final boss no one could beat.

When Aspyr released KOTOR II on Switch in 2022, it promised a free DLC that would bring over the fan-famous Restored Content Mod — the community project that re-adds cut scenes, quests, dialogue, and the much-talked-about HK class droid factory. It was a big deal: the Switch version would have been the first official console release of the restored content. But months passed, updates stopped, and eventually Aspyr quietly confirmed the DLC was canceled.

Who killed KOTOR II DLC?

Now, reporting from GameFile has put names to the mystery. According to multiple sources involved in the project, Aspyr and the mod’s developers spent years preparing the console version, but when it came time to clear the content, Disney — the current steward of the Star Wars IP — blocked the release. The report suggests the issue wasn’t technical, but legal: elements of the fan-made restoration apparently couldn’t be approved under Disney’s licensing rules.

The fallout didn’t stop there. The cancellation prompted a class-action lawsuit, with players arguing they bought the Switch version expecting that promised DLC. Aspyr eventually reached a settlement offering free game keys as compensation, but the bigger question — why the DLC died — remained unanswered until now.
