Apogee Entertainment, a name synonymous with the dawn of PC first-person shooters, will publish Emberheart Games’ Wizordum for a full 1.0 release on Steam (PC) on April 29, 2025.

FPS: Spellcaster, not shooter

Wizordum, a retro-style first-person spellcaster, has been in continuos early access development for some time, and concludes its narrative with seven new levels in this final episode, tasking players with ending the reign of Chaos. Episode 3 introduces minecart combat across fire and ice themed environments, featuring new hazards and boss encounters.

Players will gain access to new weapons, including the Faewood Crossbow and the Staff of Chaos, which offers ice, fire, and storm spells. The game world will be further explorable through hidden Lore Scrolls and secret areas.

A built-in level editor will allow for custom content creation and speedrunning challenges. The 1.0 release also incorporates quality-of-life improvements across all episodes.

Emberheart Games’ lead developer, Primož Vovk, previously worked on remasters of Apogee’s 90s titles (Crystal Caves, Secret Agent, Monster Bash). Wizordum is a new IP co-developed with and published by Apogee.

Apogee Entertainment, founded by Scott Miller, was instrumental in the rise of PC gaming and the shareware model. The company funded and published Id Software’s Wolfenstein 3D, alongside creating titles like Duke Nukem 3D, Prey, and Shadow Warrior (often under the 3D Realms label). The revitalised Apogee continues to support indie developers and currently has nine other games in development.
