Namco’s 1988 action platformer, Märchen Maze, has been added to the Arcade Archives collection. As usual with this strand, the release offers players the opportunity to experience a faithful recreation of the original arcade title.
Märchen Maze places players in the role of Alice, whose mission is to liberate the Mirror Country from the evil queen. Gameplay focuses on navigating levels using bubble-based attacks and precise jumping maneuvers to overcome obstacles and defeat end-of-stage bosses.
The Arcade Archives edition of Märchen Maze provides a range of customizable settings, including game difficulty adjustments and options to emulate the visual characteristics of period-accurate arcade displays. Global leaderboards are integrated, enabling players to compare high scores internationally.
This release utilizes the original Japanese ROM. However, the options menu and digital manual are available in Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. This multilingual support broadens accessibility for players outside of Japan.
The inclusion of Märchen Maze in the Arcade Archives places it alongside some far more famous titles. However, given its technical prowess, it remains a significant title from Namco’s history, and gives us the chance to revisit an arcade classic.
You’ll find Märchen Maze in the Nintendo eShop and on the PlayStation Store.
