Mega Cat Studios has announced another impressive slate of new releases for original Nintendo hardware, with three brand-new games arriving for the NES and Super Nintendo on January 29.

Launching exclusively via the Mega Cat Studios online store, the trio includes SNES maze chaser Super Fanger, alongside NES titles Plyuk and Old Towers. Each targets a different corner of the retro design space, while staying firmly rooted in the strengths — and limitations — of the hardware they’re built for.

Let’s look at the three games.

Super Fanger (SNES): chaotic multiplayer energy

Leading the charge is Super Fanger, a frantic maze-based chase game for the Super Nintendo that feels designed with sofa multiplayer firmly in mind. Described as a high-speed game of tag, Super Fanger tasks players with chasing or evading opponents across dynamic arenas, making smart use of movement and special abilities.

It has four distinct maps, unlockable surprises, and a roster of absurd characters with unique skills.

Plyuk (NES): cloning your way to freedom

On the NES side, Plyuk offers a more thoughtful pace. This puzzle platformer drops its unlikely hero into an underground laboratory filled with traps, hazards, and failed experiments, with one key mechanic driving everything: cloning.

Players must create duplicates of Plyuk to solve puzzles that rely on coordination and timing, turning a simple 8-bit setup into something that requires a lot of thought.

Old Towers (NES): precision, speed, and problem-solving

Rounding out the trio is Old Towers, an action-puzzle game focused on fast movement and spatial awareness. Players dash across floors, walls, and ceilings, collecting coins while avoiding traps such as spikes, arrows, and crushing blocks.

With over 40 levels and multiple playable characters, Old Towers looks to balance speedrunning with methodical puzzle-solving.

I really like Mega Cat Studios

Mega Cat Studios is one of those rare indie publishers that consistently earns attention, not through spectacle, but through craft. Time and again, they’ve demonstrated that releasing new games for NES and SNES doesn’t have to be a gimmick — it can be a genuine continuation of the platforms’ libraries.

With Super Fanger, Plyuk, and Old Towers, Mega Cat continues to impress with its attitude to classic console platforms.

All three games launch January 29, exclusively via the Mega Cat Studios store, for players still keeping their original Nintendo consoles plugged in — or for those with flash carts and FPGA systems ready to go.
