An upcoming indie game is to launch on Steam, taking inspiration from the ‘Strike’ games of the 90s. Megacopter: Blades of the Goddess combines the isometric perspective of Desert Strike with a smooth and interactive surroundings with bold colours and art style.
Taking a sci-fi turn, Pizza Bear Games’ latest project has you controlling a possessed helicopter as you go on a shooting rampage against the Reptoid Army. You take out enemy bases and airborne enemies with a range of projectile attacks while you avoid rapid fire from enemies.
A trailer for the game was posted on the official Megacopter Twitter page. It follows an ARPG and SHMUP-lite gameplay style and is going to be made available via Steam for PC, Mac and Linux. It’s refreshing to have a ‘Strike‘ style title releasing soon after the series faded out in 1997.
The developers have highlighted that the game “blends 80s/90s retro games (Choplifter, Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike) and TV (Airwolf, Knight Rider) with updated gameplay and sci-fi adventure.”
You can play a range of mission types including seek and destroy missions, rescue missions. defence missions and boss missions. Consuming enemy blood allows the activation of AZ-TECH consisting of ancient weapons and armour. You can make enhancements to the Megacopter and choose weapons to your preference. You meet many characters along the way and get to destroy your enemies to a retro-style OST by OGRE.
Releases like these take such originals spins on classic games that were never revived. It takes what was great about those games and breathes new life into the genre and Megacopter certainly looks like it will do just that and more!
Despite being announced a few years back, the release date for the game is still TBC. The Twitter update is encouraging, however, and you can wishlist it on Steam now.
