The Sunsoft Collection 2 for Evercade consoles is out in April 2024, and features 7 games from across the 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit eras.
I’m a big fan of Evercade, so it’s good to see an interesting new collection coming along full of titles I either haven’t heard of, or have never played.
The Sunsoft Collection 2 comprises 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit titles, representing an interesting cross-section of Sunsoft’s library.
Better still, as with every Evercade cartridge, it’s compatible with both Evercade VS and Evercade EXP. It should also run on a Hyper Mega Tech Super Pocket.
This collection includes the following 7 titles:
- Ufouria: The Saga
- Blaster Master: Enemy Below
- Aero the Acro-Bat 2
- Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel
- Daze Before Christmas
- Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors
- Pri Pri Primitive Princess
That final title is of particular interest. Pri Pri Primitive Princess was a puzzle game only released in Japan in 1990. What you’re getting on the Sunsoft Collection 2 is the first localised adaptation of the game ever.
Meanwhile, you’ve got a nice selection of shooters, platformers, and fighters in this collection. Significantly, these games either weren’t released in the west, or they were very difficult to get hold of.
As with other curated collections for the Evercade, this cartridge features plenty to explore. I don’t think I’ve played a single cartridge where I already owned all of the titles – not even on the C64 carts! – and curation is definitely something the people behind the Evercade have worked at. (Sure, some collections might be a bit disappointing to me, but other people love them – we all have our favourites!)
Be sure to check the Evercade website for full details of the Sunsoft Collection 2, ahead of its April 2024 release.
