More Analogue Pocket cores means more classic games on the go for this compact, flexible handheld.

Recent developments to the Analogue Pocket handheld have made the platform increasingly popular over the past few months. Among these changes are new FPGA cores, supporting 5 arcade systems and delivering 8 games.

The arcade cores for Analgue Pocket are thanks to work from obsidian-dot-dev and have been ported from previously released MISTer versions. This work has resulted in the following arcade games now being playable on the Analogue Pocket:

  • Mario Bros.
  • Asteroids Deluxe
  • Donkey Kong 3
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Tower of Druaga
  • Dig Dug II
  • Mappy
  • Motos

Meanwhile, another Analogue Pocket core is on its way. Over the weekend, it has been revealed that an MSX core is close to release, which should enable a number of MSX titles to run on the Analogue Pocket. The MSX system hosted some interesting titles, despite not gaining traction in the UK and USA, so its always good to see this platform getting some extra support.

The demo of the MSX core reveals over 900 MSX titles could be running on an Analogue Pocket running this new core emulator.

Here’s a preview:

If you don’t have an Analogue Pocket yet, they’re still available, although currently only in white.

Analogue Duo jailbreak

Analogue Duo console

The Analogue Duo PC Engine/Turbo Duo replacement console has also seen some developments in recent weeks. Notable among these is the news that the platform has finally received a jailbreak hack.

In short, this means that ROMs can be loaded up from SD cards, rather than the CD or cartridge cards. While it is likely the jailbreak exploit will be ironed out in future, it remains an enticing possibility for Analogue Duo owners (who have more than enough new cores to play with).

You can still buy the Analogue Duo.
