New Lego Atari 2600 Reported To Be Released Sometime in August 2022

Be warned: Nostalgasm ahead for the unprepared.

Lego is dipping its studs even deeper into the gaming world as their latest video game tribute comes in the form of the classic Lego Atari 2600 retro console to be released in August of 2022.

According to an article on Promobricks, Atari is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Lego has decided to contribute its studs to design the Lego Atari 2600, a replica of the classic 1977 video game console.

This wouldn’t be the first time Lego made a significant contribution to the retro gaming scene. Back in 2020, Lego showcased their newest Lego item #71374, a mock setup of an NES running the original Super Mario video game on an 80s TV set (back when you still called them TV sets).

Like the NES replica, the Lego Atari 2600 will feature a controller that closely resembles the CX40 Joystick and, of course, the 1977 video game console itself. There isn’t an official release date at this time. However, it’s suspected to arrive sometime in August with an almost $200 price tag.

Super Mario was the star of the NES replica, and Pitfall Harry will be the star for the Lego Atari 2600. There will be a timed release at launch with a subsequent general release much later at the beginning of 2023. Learn more in the video above – note that it features German narration, but you can get the drift from the still images featured within.
