Frontier Force is a cracking looking game that is now available to play from the developer’s Itch.io page. But what is particularly intriguing is that while it might look like a SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis title, it is actually for the Master System!

Created by developer Badcomputer, the game has gone from alpha demo (see video below) to full $4.99 release. There is also a physical version!

Here is the synopsis:

The Earth lies in ruins under alien occupation, a harsh reminder of our lost home. A fragile outpost, humanity’s last hope, teeters on the brink of collapse.

A hero must rise to defend the outpost against relentless alien invaders. The fate of humanity rests on your actions, and the outcome is far from certain.

This is a fixed screen shooter, controlled using the standard SEGA Master System controller.

Frontier Force boasts the following features:

  • Colourful SEGA Master System graphics
  • 5 stages, plus 2 bonus stages, each with different hazards
  • Mid bosses and HUGE end-stage bosses unique to each stage
  • 6 different weapons
  • Over 40 unique enemies
  • Dynamic difficulty
  • Scoring mechanics to discover
  • Printable manual

Fancy it? I think we can agree that the developer has done amazing work with the graphics, and it looks super-playable. There’s a working demo of Frontier Force, too.

Frontier Force physical version

The physical version of Frontier Force is coming to the 2minds.fr online store, and is available to pre-order now for €50. If you opt for physical, you’ll get:

  • Brand new cartridge
  • Box with color inlay (reversible)
  • 24 pages manual
  • A3 poster
