Repairing your Nintendo 3DS is about to become far more difficult as parts begin to run out. PLUS retro hardware release news.

Nintendo has announced that it has run out of replacement parts for the 3DS console in Japan. (“As we have run out of parts necessary for repairs, we have stopped accepting repairs for the New Nintendo 3DS system [KTR-001] as of August 28, 2024.”)

The announcement was issued on X/Twitter, with the translated text reading:

Repair services for the Nintendo 2DS, New Nintendo 3DS, and New Nintendo 3DS LL systems will end as soon as the current parts inventory is depleted.
※ We will continue to accept repairs for the “New Nintendo 2DS LL.”

While this is currently a Japan-only issue, it seems likely that parts are reducing in quality in the Europe and North America.
