There’s a new Kickstarter live now from Fusion Retro Books, 64 Dreams in which author and journalist Andrew Fisher pays tribute to those unforgettable Commodore 64 games that filled our childhoods with joy and left us dreaming of high scores and pixelated adventures.

The sequel to 64 Nightmares, this new volume follows Graeme Wilson’s ZX Dreams, which achieved funding in November 2024.

What’s in 64 Dreams?

This upcoming 232-page hardback is a loving tribute to those unforgettable Commodore 64 games that filled our childhoods with joy and left us dreaming of high scores and pixelated adventures.

According to the Kickstarter, you can expect features like:

  • Simply Wonderful: Remember those full-price C64 titles that were worth every penny (or week’s allowance)? This chapter dives deep into the beautiful and captivating games across genres like shoot-’em-ups, platformers, text adventures, strategy games, and more – the very games we eagerly anticipated under the Christmas tree.
  • Lovely Licences: Get ready to revisit unique C64 interpretations of your favorite TV shows, books, films, and personalities. This chapter celebrates the licensed games that captured the essence of their source material in their own special way.
  • Brilliant Budget: From the mid-80s onwards, the arrival of budget powerhouses like Mastertronic and Firebird opened up a world of affordable gaming. This section explores the surprisingly brilliant gems that could be found amongst the cheaper titles, proving that fun didn’t always have to break the bank.
  • Superb Sports: Prepare for a nostalgic look back at the joystick-punishing sports games that brought all the action right into our bedrooms!
  • Amazing Arcade: Journey back to the era when arcades reigned supreme and discover how the C64 brought those coin-op thrills home.

So, if you have fond memories of loading times, SID chip melodies, and countless hours spent glued to your Commodore 64, 64 Dreams sounds like the perfect addition to your retro gaming collection.
