The steady stream of classic Sierra games receiving new life on Commodore hardware continues, with Police Quest III: The Kindred now showcased in an impressive Amiga OCS remaster.

Shared in a new YouTube video, the project comes from kikems / amigawave, with contributions from DaraSCO of the SCP group – a name that’s becoming increasingly familiar to Amiga fans thanks to a growing catalogue of careful, respectful remaster work, which most recently includes news of a Space Quest IV remaster.

A Sierra adventure many Amiga owners missed

Originally released in 1991, Police Quest III is best remembered as a PC adventure, arriving during Sierra’s VGA-era push on MS-DOS. While earlier Police Quest titles had Amiga versions, this third entry is far less associated with Commodore systems, which makes this project particularly intriguing.

I’ll admit this one passed me by at the time. I never played Police Quest III and, until fairly recently, didn’t even realise it had any Amiga connection at all – my awareness of the game began and ended with the DOS release. Seeing it reimagined for OCS-era hardware feels like uncovering an alternative history.

What the remaster shows

The video demonstrates Police Quest III rebuilt to run within the constraints of the Amiga OCS, while still capturing the atmosphere of Sierra’s original art style. Backgrounds, character sprites and colour usage all feel carefully balanced to suit classic Amiga machines, rather than simply being downscaled PC assets.

This isn’t a flashy remake, but a thoughtful reinterpretation – exactly the sort of approach SCP projects have become known for. It’s less about modernisation, more about asking: what if this had been done properly on Amiga back then?

SCP’s remasters keep getting more interesting

Between this and recent work on other Sierra titles, it’s hard not to be increasingly intrigued by what the SCP group is doing. These projects don’t just show technical skill, they highlight how much untapped potential still exists in classic platforms when handled with care and restraint.

Whether Police Quest III ever becomes a playable public release remains to be seen, but even as a showcase, this remaster is a fascinating glimpse into what the Amiga could still have been capable of in the early ’90s.

For fans of Sierra adventures, or anyone who enjoys seeing forgotten corners of retro gaming explored properly, this is well worth playing. The game can be downloaded (with registration) from the English Amiga Board.
