Reef Entertainment, in collaboration with Bitmap Bureau, has announced Terminator 2D: NO FATE, an officially licensed 2D action side-scroller set within the Terminator 2: Judgment Day universe. The game is slated for release on September 5th, 2025, across PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store).
This title aims to capture the essence of classic arcade action, utilizing Bitmap Bureau’s signature pixel art style to recreate iconic scenes and introduce new scenarios. Players will assume the roles of Sarah Connor, the T-800, and John Connor, navigating a narrative that blends familiar moments from the film with original story elements and multiple endings.
Gameplay will feature a variety of level designs, including missions set during the Future War and segments focused on evading the T-1000. Combat will encompass shooting, stealth, and boss encounters, with the game emphasizing high-score chasing and arcade-style progression.
Looking at the trailer, this is everything the 16-bit version wasn’t. But that could be about to change, as ports for retro platforms are apparently going to be available!
The game features:
- Arcade-Style Gameplay: The game is designed to emulate the feel of classic arcade titles, with a focus on fast-paced action and high-score competition.
- Narrative Expansion: The story will integrate scenes from Terminator 2: Judgment Day with original content, offering players new perspectives on the established lore.
- Multiple Playable Characters: Players can control Sarah Connor, the T-800, and John Connor, each with unique gameplay segments.
- Pixel Art and Soundtrack: The game will feature detailed 2D sprite artwork and a soundtrack that combines remixed tracks from the film’s score with original compositions.
- Multiple Game Modes: Story Mode, Arcade Mode, Infinite Mode, Boss Rush, Mother of the Future and Level Training.
